We’ve been wanting to add a smart deadbolt for some time. Our teenage son is always the last one out the front door and one of us ends up having to go back and lock the deadbolt. And, of course, periodically we do the return to the house to make sure we locked the door. No longer. We can set the deadbolt to automatically lock or we can lock it or unlock it from our SmartThings app.
After researching the options and reading reviews and recommendations, we selected the Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt with Alarm. We love it!
Here is what this smart dead bolt does for you:
- Touchscreen – No more keys if you don’t want them. You just punch in your code and the dead bolt unlocks. You can create codes for each member of your household, grandparents, your cleaning lady, those Airbnb guests, whomever.
- Auto Lock – You can set it to automatically lock 30 seconds after it’s been unlocked. So, whether home or away, the dead bolt automatically locks itself.
- Remote Control – You can remotely lock or unlock the door via SmartThings and its app even when you are away from home. And, you can control it with Amazon Echo (Alexa).
- Built-in Alarm – It has a built in alarm that sounds in 3 different modes (activity, tamper or forced entry).
The build quality is excellent and it’s very attractive, coming in several finishes to match your hardware. This is a high quality product. Installation was a breeze via replacing the existing dead bolt. Connecting to SmartThings took a few tries until I moved the hub close to the lock.
This product was installed in March, 2017.
We continue to love this product. I’ve now added a little SmartThings routine with it that if we unlock the Schlage Connect lock and it’s dark outside, the porch light will turn on automatically. Very cool.
