Yesterday, I received my Arlo Pro Security Camera shipment. Exciting. After quite a bit of research on cameras, I decided this one was worthy of checking out. I’ve been looking at cameras for over a year, but it seems most all had shortcomings of one form or another.
Here’s what this new Arlo Pro has:
- 100% wire-free so you can basically put it anywhere without the restriction of being near an outlet. It comes with a rechargeable battery.
- Weatherproof so you can use it indoor or outdoor.
- HD, 130 degree viewing and auto night vision.
- Motion detection automatically starts recording, plus you can look in anytime from your connected devices.
- Two-way audio so that you can hear and announce.
- Free cloud storage of video snippets and optional local backup storage via usb.
- Built-in siren on base.
- Fully integrates with SmartThings.
This is a pretty robust feature set.
The camera is simple and elegant. It comes with a base that has a wired ethernet connection to your Internet device. The base has a built-in 100 decibel siren. You only need one base for all your cameras.
The set up was simple and easy with the Arlo Pro app. The camera comes with a magnetic attachment that you attach to a wall or you can just sit the camera on shelf or piece of furniture.
I’m going to monitor this camera before committing to more, but so far so good. The camera stays connected and the motion detection is responsive. I have read some reviews about severe delays with the motion detection. This can be an issue if you set up the camera with motion coming towards it. You need to position so that motion goes across the field of view for the quickest responsiveness.
I am really loving this camera. I don’t have any of the drop off issues I’ve experienced with other cameras and other smart devices.
I also checked on customer service via email. I initially tested the camera on a cabinet. After a few weeks of success, I decided to try it outside in the front porch. For that I would need the magnetic bracket it came with. I think I threw it out with the packaging. I explained this to customer service. No problem. They sent another one at no charge. Nice!
