If you have kids, they are likely playing baseball or softball right now. Most MLB teams had their opening days yesterday and it reminded me of our twins’ baseball opening day a few weeks ago. There was grilling in the air, tons of families, baseball players everywhere, balloons, good times.
Of course, most parents have no idea how difficult it will be to get their young child to be a baseball player and how much money it will take to become good at it and how much more it will cost to excel at it.
I continue to work with my older boy who is a freshman on his high school’s Varsity team and is getting interest from major Division I colleges. He is off to a really great start. I am also helping coach our 6 year old twins’ Little League team. Oh man, I remember 6 year olds being much better when my older boy was that age.
One thing I see all the time is parents that need help selecting baseball equipment. Take a look at my list of best baseball products. Now, it is geared to serious baseball players, but you will find some products for the youngsters as well. The equipment is not as important for the little ones as they’re going to keep growing and you will be replacing it for some time.
Right now, I am checking out the following products:
- The Rope Bat – This is a training bat. It sounds interesting and makes sense in theory. I have one for my older boy and one for the little ones. My older boy struggled with his first use of it yesterday. We will see how it goes.
- Smush Balls – These are soft hitting training balls that are safe to use indoors or outdoors for hitting drills and that give immediate feedback when the ball is not hit square.
- Xprotex Raykr Batting Gloves – These are excellent batting gloves that also protect the hands from pitched balls. This is our 4th or 5th pair Xprotex over the last few years.
- Markwort Weighted Balls – These are weighted balls for serious pitcher training. I ordered 4 oz (underweight), 6 oz and 7 oz.
Play ball!
