Jet.com Takes Off

Jet.com sounds like a airline booking site, right?

With my story about Walmart offering savings for in-store pickups, I was curious about Walmart’s Jet.com. Honestly, I’m such a big Amazon fan that I don’t often stray from Amazon to make purchases.

I needed to order more Philips Hue White bulbs so I thought I would shop around as Amazon doesn’t have a good price on them ($79.99 for one at this time – no kidding!).

I went to Jet.com. First off, you get 10% off your first 3 orders. The next thing I noticed was that Jet.com had the lowest price on the bulbs at $14.88 and that price got lower the more bulbs I added to the order. Cool. Lastly, I was offered an additional slight discount if I waived the free return shipping. All nice.

I got free shipping on my order over $35. The peculiar thing to me since I’m so accustomed to Amazon offering free 2 day shipping (and even some times next day and same day!) was that Jet.com gave me a window of April 18 to April 24 as the delivery date (today’s order date is April 13). That’s a huge window and not something I’m too excited about. In this case, I’m not in a hurry for the bulbs so no problem.

So, let the $79.99 price for one Philips Hue White bulb be an example that Amazon may not always have the lowest price. I searched for a number of other items on Jet.com and it appears to be slim pickings so it may be hit or miss.

I think Jet.com is worth checking out.

More to the story on the shipping. After ordering yesterday and expecting delivery on April 18 to April 24 as stated when when I ordered on Jet.com, my order arrived today. So, I received it next day! What’s really funny is that the shipping confirmation email also stated that delivery would be April 18 to April 24.

How many sales is Jet.com losing because they don’t have sophisticated systems to inform customers how soon they will receive their delivery? Talk about cutting yourself short.

My first experience with Jet.com turns out to be a pleasant surprise.
