I don’t recall ever going to a Popeye’s before. There aren’t many near where we live and the family is all in on Chic-fil-A (honestly, I really don’t get it). Our teenage son tries to eat healthy so without other choices, he’ll eat a chicken sandwich before he’ll eat a hamburger. He’d probably put the Wendy’s chicken sandwich at the top of his list.
What brought my attention to it, of course, is the stories about fights and shootings over the new Popeyes Chicken Sandwich and how Popeyes ran out of the sandwiches two weeks after launching in August 2019. I would’ve liked to be in those Popeyes marketing meetings discussing whether violence surrounding their new sandwich launch was a good thing. They say any PR is good PR, right? It’s been like the news coverage of violence at Black Friday sales at the stores.
Anyway, back to the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich. We have one Popeyes within a few miles of our house so my wife, my teenage son stopped in. Well, my wife stopped in as we stayed in the car because there were no parking spaces. This was at 3:00 pm on a Wednesday. About 15 minutes later, she comes out with our chicken sandwiches. She said it was crowded inside.
How was it? I loved it and I’m not a chicken sandwich guy. The combination of the soft, slightly sweet and butter brioche bun, the juicy white chicken filet in a crispy hand-battered-and-breaded buttermilk coating and the crisp, barrel-cured pickles is quite outstanding. When you bite into the sandwich, you notice the softness of the bread, then the crunch of the juicy chicken and the zing of the pickles. Very good.
My son inhaled his in a matter of a few minutes and wondered where his second one was. Not that it was small. My wife loved it too.
I did a little research and found that Popeyes chicken has been voted the best chicken. They may have just added best chicken sandwich to the awards. And, they’re attracting new customers in new demographics into their stores thanks to this new chicken sandwich. You can add me as one of them.
Chick it out! You’ll love it.
